Editor of the Lanka Newspaper released. I feel bitter-sweet.

16/02/2010

Chandana Sirimalwatte, the editor of the Lanka Newspaper was released today by the Gangodawila Magistrate since the CID failed to produce any charge against him. He was imprisoned for 18 days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (or is it under the ER Act?) and after all that, the CID failed to produce any charge against him. Basically, what this means is that he was imprisoned for 18 days for nothing, absolutely nothing… Readers, that is the power of the government for you. Speak against the government, feel the power… It doesn’t matter who you are. If Gotabhaya wants you arrested, if Mahinda wants you arrested, you will be arrested. You don’t have to do anything wrong. They have those draconian laws. In fact, they don’t even need laws. Fonseka didn’t know for what he was arrested… Chandana, a patriot, a courageous man, was released today, after being imprisoned for 18 days for telling the truth, after being harassed for 18 days. What I feel, is bitter-sweet.
